Lottery Addiction and the Mega Millions Estimated $500 Jackpot

March 29, 2012 · Posted in Uncategorized

Are you addicted to the lottery? I know there was a time when my father was. He would buy a lot of tickets to scratch or bet on a number of mega numbers. I think he used to spend more than a hundred bucks everyday on it. He would win on some draws but if you take into account the bets he made everyday, it’s obvious that he never won or gained from his so-called ‘little investments’. He stopped only when we have lost our home.

I have heard that Mega Millions will be raffling off about $500 for their jackpot draw this Friday and I know that a lot of people are probably going gaga in making their bets and choosing their mega numbers while praying that they could take home mega mega millions of money. Honestly, if I was only in the US, I would have made a bet too. I think it’s not that wrong to bet every once in a while, just as long as you’re sure that you’re not becoming a mega millions lottery addict.

So how do you know if you’re already addicted? You’re addicted if you buy lottery tickets everyday or every week, or as often as you can. You’re addicted if you spend a large part of your paycheck on it and if you keep on betting even after losing big just because you’re hoping to win big soon.

Now what should you do if you are addicted? After admitting that there is something wrong with your habits, the next thing that you should must do is to change your routine. Try to stay away from fellow mega millions addict and instead just stay at home, or find something more productive to do. Try to stay away from every mega millions store or any other type of lottery. Let somebody else handle your money or put it in a bank the moment you’ve got the cold cash in your hands. Also, list down your assumed yearly betting expenses and imagine what you could have bought with that much money. Lastly, try to build a strong support group. Make your family and friends involved in your attempt to change.

In one of those coupon mailers a few years back, there were a few coupons for free tickets ($1 and $2 scratch tickets, our states bi-weekly lottery and the mega-millions lottery). I hadn’t bought any of those tickets in years, so the next time I got gas, I turned the coupons in. I won nothing on the scratch tickets and lottery ticket, and, get this…$150 on the mega-million! I figured I got all the luck I was due, so I still haven’t bought any since!
