WiFi Vending Machines in Japan
Vending Machines which dispense WiFi signals – I don’t know if you have already heard or read about this but it was only now that I have stumbled upon Techcrunch.com again and so this is news to me.

Asahi Soft Drinks, a Tokyo-based beverage company which operates 250,000 vending machines in Japan, will be distributing a thousand innovative vending machines this year. Aside from soft drinks, these vending machines will also send out wireless signals for FREE. Yes FREE. That means anyone with a WiFi enabled gadget can connect to the vending machine’s WiFi and go online without any charge whatsoever (yes, there’s no need to buy soft drinks). They can use the WiFi for 30 minutes straight, as long as they are within the 50-meter radius around the machine. When the machine cuts off the connection after 30 minutes, users can re-log.
The soft drinks company aims to distribute about 10,000 WiFi vending machines in Japan by 2016. I hope other companies would adapt the same strategy and offer the same or more.
