I am fond of musical jewelry boxes. When I was young, I had one with a ballerina on top and I used to play it every night before I sleep. Yana also had one when she was still a baby. I got her one because I’ve heard that music helps stimulate thoughts and makes babies smarter but am not really so sure if there are some medical studies that back that up. What I’ve read recently is that music did help strengthen premature babies, based on a research abroad.
According to a study made by researchers from Brigham Young University, music helps develop the health and condition of premature babies. The study was conducted among 33 premature babies in the neonatal intensive care unit at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center. What the researchers did was to make sure that each baby was exposed to voices of men and women singing lullabies for exactly 40 minutes everyday, for four days. The result was that the babies who were exposed to music gained more weight and a stronger heart beat. They also had lower blood pressure. Continue reading
